nocturnal migrations and a new yard sale

Good morning! I hope you all got to sleep in a little on this lovely Saturday morning. I awoke to my Russian cat doing the equivalent of jumping on my bed to let me know that he was hungry and that I needed to feed him. He doesn’t do this often, but when he does it is very annoying.

In all fairness, it was almost 10am, and they are used to having breakfast around 8am. Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed my internal clock has been shifting a little each day. I sleep a little later in the mornings, and go to bed a little later at night. I still average about 7 hours a night, it’s just a different 7 hours. For example, Wednesday: 1am-8am; Thursday: 1:45am-9am; Friday: 2:30am-9:45am. I don’t like where this is heading.

So what was I doing up at 2am? Partying? Carousing? Not this girl… I was researching domain hosting for The Fainting Goat Boutique. So much has changed in the online retail world since we had our last website, its like I’m starting from scratch. Part of my business plan that I’m going to have down on paper before the end of the year (one of my to do’s for The List) will involve opening a new online retail store, so I need to know what’s out there. I actually love doing research, on anything. It’s one of the reasons that private investigator made my short list of possible career paths.

I was also up late last night putting the final touches on this weeks Yard Sale collection. The theme is All That Glitters. Just between us, it was supposed to be All That Shimmers, but I had a momentary lapse when creating the banner for this week and put glitters instead. That works too, I suppose. I picked shiny things. I literally walked around my stacks, racks and piles of inventory and pulled out things that were shiny and caught my eye. There’s a few purses, some shoes, even a few evening gowns this week! ( I had to up the price category for those to $25 because they are both made of seriously heavy velvet so the cost to ship them will be greater. Even at that price though it’s a steal!)

Here’s a look at some of the items being shared this week. I managed to locate the file on my old laptop where some of our product photos from the last website were stored, so you’ll see a few of those beautiful shining faces in here as well.

GUESS Turquoise & Silver Pumps, $10

Vintage Silver Clutch Purse, $10

Satiny Wrap Top, $10

NEW Daisy Fuentes Heavy Metal Cami, $10

Chiffon Salsa Dress, $20

Velvet & Glitter Evening Gown, $25

Enjoy your Saturday!! I’ll be back later with my outfit post. So far my outfit still consists of my flannel leggings and long sleeve tee, i.e my pajamas. Not really inspiring… or flattering. 🙂

Technical Difficulties and a Holiday Sale!

Well folks, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. Not bad really, just not so good. Which do you want first? The not-so-good news? I like saving the best for last too.

Do to some technical difficulties I have been experiencing, there will not be a new yard sale collection up tomorrow. I know, its only the second week and I’m already falling behind. Let’s just say that my problems make it feel like I’m having a yard sale in my backyard where no one can see and the crazy lady down the street stole all my signs and pointed them to her own sale. Last weeks items will still be up for purchase though, and if I can work things out over the weekend I may add a few more fall finds early next week. I’ll let you know how that goes.

See now, that wasn’t so bad. Ready for the good news? Because I feel really bad about not having a new collection for you guys this week, I’m going to try to bribe your affections with an Etsy sale!

Click on image to start shopping now!

Shop anytime between now and 8am (EST) next Monday and save 25% of your entire purchase!! Enter coupon code THANKFUL2010 at checkout to get the savings. All items in the shop are eligible for discount, and you can use the coupon code as many times as you (or your friends) would like! To make it even a little more sweet, I’ll be adding new vintage items to the shop throughout the weekend, so check back often!

This yard is open for business

Good morning world! I’m excited to announce that the Yard Sale site is now open for business (and a few hours ahead of schedule I might add.) Go check it out and snatch up some good deals before they’re gone!

This weeks theme is:

What says fall better than sweaters, jeans, wool and corduroy? I selected some of our most autumnal items for this first collection. I’ll be adding more product images over the next few days. You can get a good idea of how the items look from what’s up on the site now though. So go shop and then tell your friends!

It’s almost Yard Sale time!! Wahoo!

Well folks, tomorrow is the big day! I will be unveiling The Fainting Goat Boutique’s first virtual Yard Sale collection on our new shopping site! To be honest, I feel totally overwhelmed right now by this venture. I know that after a few weeks I’ll have the kinks worked out and it will be easy-peasy to run, but right now every little step feels like an ordeal to accomplish. Maybe I’m rushing things and should wait a few weeks to launch the site. Maybe I should have been more productive last week when I watched three seasons of Weeds in four days (that’s right, I said seasons). But I am confident that I can still pull this off. Plus I’m don’t want to wait a few more weeks to share this with you!

If you’re new and not sure what I’m talking about, here’s the skinny. See, my little store, The Fainting Goat Boutique, started as a full on store, selling both vintage and gently used clothing. I shut down our online store a while back when the business was on hold, and since I started it back up I’ve only been on etsy (no monthly fees) which means only the vintage pieces are being listed. I have TONS of inventory though that’s not vintage that is sitting all sad and lonely in my studio. Since I don’t plan on ever really selling this type of clothing in the Goat in the future, I decided to sell it off yard sale style. That means cheap. Real cheap.

Each week on Friday I will post a new collection of about 20 items with prices ranging from $10-$30, and that includes shipping (which has gotten EXPENSIVE over the past few years!). Each collection will have a loose theme and will only be available for 1 WEEK! Items being sold will include clothing for women and men, shoes, accessories, plus size, etc. No kid stuff though, sorry. I’m only selling items that are in great condition, and things that I feel are worth the extra cost of shipping (meaning a $10 pair of jeans will actually be worth $10, not the $3 or $4 I’ll make on the sale after shipping it to you). The pictures won’t be anything artistic like our previous shoots, but we’re talking yard sale here, not trendy boutique. ** Side note: if you know me personally and want to get an item in person instead of in the mail, I’ll give you a $5 discount. Just send me a message and we’ll work it out.

Today I will be making the final selections for the first sale selection. I’ve got a lot of work to do, so I better get to it! Have a lovely day!
