In my opinion, one of the most important things for a person to determine in their life is what their style is. Sure, purpose and passion are good things to search out too, but knowing your style helps to put structure around who you are as a person. Think of how much easier life would be if you could just avoid all of those silly fashion fads that just aren’t you (not to mention how much money you’d save on skinny jeans and parachute pants).
I think that a great place to start in identifying your own personal style is by identifying what popular style icons you are drawn to. Since I’m still in the process of becoming my own personal style icon (a goal we should all shoot for), I thought I would share with you some of the great icons who I love! So here is the first installment of a new series here on The Fainting Goat Blog called Style Icons.
This week’s icon is not only someone whose style I covet, she’s also makes the short list of celebrities that I would love to meet one day: Dolly Parton. When I see early images of her from the 70’s and 80’s, the fashionista inside me swoons. Over the years, though her style has changed with the times, you can tell that she has always remained true to the persona that she created. The blond hair, bright eyes, curve hugging attire complete with fringe and sequins… I love it all!
Not only is Dolly a beautiful fashion icon, she’s also an incredibly smart business woman. Take a minute to read her bio on wikipedia and you’ll see that this lady has worked hard her entire to life to get to the top. Not only a talented songwriter and performer, she’s acted in some of my favorite movies (hello, Steel Magnolias & 9 to 5!), plus she HAS HER OWN THEME PARK! That people actually go to!
On top of all that though, the thing that impresses me most about Dolly (and probably one of the keys to her success) is that she has managed to keep her personal life personal throughout her career. I really respect her for that, and I wish that more celebrities would follow her lead. Did you know that she and her husband have been married since 1966? That’s over 50 years, people! They met in a laundromat on her first day in Nashville and were married two years later. I love it!
Now that you know why I love Dolly Parton, let me show you why I love her style! Here are a few images that inspire me (and my fashion choices):
Glam-country is definitely a big influence in my style! What about you?
